Paying someone to write your CV can cost anything from £20 on a freelance marketplace to several hundred pounds with a specialist executive writer. Here's what you can expect to pay in the UK, and what you should get for your money.
Typical prices in 2026
Based on prices published by UK CV writing services, a CV on its own usually costs:
| Career level | Typical price, CV only |
|---|---|
| School leaver or graduate | £50 – £150 |
| Mid-career professional | £90 – £250 |
| Senior manager or specialist | £150 – £300 |
| Director or executive | £175 – £500+ |
| Cover letter (add-on) | £30 – £60 |
| LinkedIn profile (add-on) | £50 – £150 |
Most services also sell bundles of a CV, cover letter and LinkedIn profile, typically for £130 to £300. For example, at the time of writing PurpleCV advertises CVs from £50 and TopCV's published packages run from about £99 to £179. Prices change often, so check providers' own websites.
What affects the price
- Your career level. Senior CVs take longer to research and write.
- Who writes it. Experienced, specialist writers charge more than generalists or offshore teams.
- Turnaround. Express delivery in 24 to 48 hours usually costs extra.
- How much contact you get. A phone consultation with your writer costs more than a questionnaire alone.
- Revisions. Check how many rounds are included and for how long.
- What's included. A cover letter and LinkedIn profile written to match your CV are often better value as a bundle.
Very cheap CVs and CV builders
Freelance marketplaces offer CVs for £10 to £50. Some are good, but quality varies widely, many writers don't know UK conventions, and templates are often reused. Online CV builders are another option for people who are happy to write their own CV. Be careful with builders that charge a small fee for a "trial" which then renews automatically every few weeks at a much higher price. Read the terms before you pay.
Is a CV writer worth it?
A professional CV writer is most likely to be worth it if:
- you're applying for jobs but not getting interviews
- you're changing career, returning to work or moving to the UK from abroad
- you're applying for senior roles, where one interview can be worth thousands of pounds
- you find it hard to describe your own achievements
It's probably less worth it if you're already getting interviews regularly, or you're confident writing and only need a quick review. For background, see our guides to the UK CV format and applicant tracking systems.
Red flags
- A guaranteed job. No one can promise you'll be hired.
- No information about writers or how your CV will be written.
- Templates with your details dropped in.
- Unclear prices, or a low headline price that rises at checkout.
- Subscriptions you didn't ask for. Check whether you're paying once or every month.
- Reviews you can't verify. Look for reviews on independent sites.
